FIFA TMS: 20,209 international transfers (+11.6%) for a total of $6.5bn (+33.5%) in 2022

Men's professional football clubs spent $6.5bn (€6.1bn as of 31/12/2022) on international transfer fees during 2022, an increase of 33.6% compared to 2021, according to the Global Transfer Report 2022 published by FIFA on 26/01/2023.

"There were 20,209 international transfers in men’s professional football in 2022, representing an increase of 11.6% compared to 2021 and even exceeding the levels of 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic. These transfers - 2,843 of which included transfer fees - involved a new record high of 4,770 clubs from 182 different associations, compared to 4,538 clubs in 2021. A total of 17,291 players representing 183 different nationalities were on the move in 2022," states the report from FIFA TMS, the platform that records international transfers.

This new edition of the Global Transfer Report also includes, for the fourth consecutive year, international transfers in women's football (1,555 transfers in 2022, +19.3%) and, for the second time, those of amateur players over a full calendar year (49,238 transfers involving 22,726 clubs in 2022).
