Spain/2019 Copa de la Reina: the Spanish Federation (RFEF) ordered to pay €242,000 to Mediapro

The Provincial Court of Madrid (ESP) has ordered the Spanish Football Federation (Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol) to pay "€242,000 plus interest" to Mediapro for not allowing it to broadcast the 2019 Copa de la Reina final on 11/05/2019, announced the Spanish audiovisual group on 26/01/2023.

"Despite the existence of an agreement between the RFEF and Mediapro covering the 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons and allowing the production and broadcast of three matches of the Liga de Fútbol Femenino (women's first division) and the final phase of the Copa de la Reina, a few days before the match, the Federation informed Mediapro that it could not broadcast the match. Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, argued that there was no agreement between the parties, despite the fact that Mediapro channels had until then broadcast 265 matches of the women's first division and 20 of the Copa de la Reina," said Mediapro.
