“We are getting closer to narrowing the dates for the (2022) World Cup to two options - January/February 2022 or November/December 2022 - but FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) has also been asked to consider May 2022,” said Jérôme Valcke, FIFA secretary general, after the second meeting of the FIFA task force for the 2018-2022 international calendar in Zurich (SUI) on 03/11/2014.

At this meeting, initiated by FIFA president Joseph Blatter (SUI) and led by Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain), president of the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), the organisation of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in winter was discussed with representatives of the confederations, federations, leagues, clubs and members of FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers), the ECA (European Club Association) and the EPFL (Association of European Professional Football Leagues).
