Tennis: a record attendance of 839,192 spectators (+3.3%) during the Australian Open 2023

The Australian Open 2023 set a new attendance record of 839,192 spectators at Melbourne Park in Melbourne (AUS) during the two weeks of the main draw (from 16 to 29/01/2023), announced Tennis Australia, the body in charge of organising the Grand Slam tournament, on 31/01/2023.

This is 3.3% more than the previous record for the 2020 edition (812,174 spectators). An additional 63,120 spectators attended the qualifying week (09-13/01), bringing the total attendance for the three weeks of the 2023 Australian Open to 902,312.

346,468 people attended the Australian Open in 2022 and 130,374 in 2021. Both editions were marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, with limited attendance. A five-day lockdown was declared in Victoria during the 2021 event, while Tennis Australia implemented partial capacity in 2022 (50% cap before the semi-finals, 65% for the semi-finals and 80% for the final).
