Bundesliga: DFL to resume negotiations for the sale of 20% of its media rights in early 2023 (press)

The DFL is preparing to resume talks with private equity firms for the sale of part of the domestic and international media rights of the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga, according to information reported by the US business and financial news website Bloomberg on 30/01/2023.

The German league had postponed the sale of 20% of these rights to investors until 2023, due to a lack of consensus among Germany's 36 professional clubs, according to the news agency Reuters on 05/12/2022.

The DFL is seeking to sell these rights through the creation of a commercial company that would house all of them, as reported by Bloomberg on 22/08/2022. The League has appointed German bank Deutsche Bank to accompany the deal, in conjunction with Japanese financial services company Nomura Holdings, a long-time adviser to the DFL. The commercial company would be valued at €18bn in total, with a maximum stake of €3.6bn (20%) for the investors.
