Tennis: the Australian tennis federation's venture capital fund invests in 7 startups

AO StartUps, Tennis Australia's start-up incubator, is supporting seven startups in its first year, announced the Australian tennis federation on 31/01/2023.

The AO StartUps programme ("AO" for Australian Open, the Australian Grand Slam tournament) aims to support tech companies specialising in coaching, performance, health, stadium technology, media, padel tennis, sustainability, esports and gaming.

Cape Bionics, Equidi, Calyx, Recut, Matchi, YBVR and Amperfii make up the 2023 class of companies supported by AO StartUps, whose call for applications was launched on 18/11/2022.

The Federation and the American investment fund Techstars jointly founded the venture capital fund Wildcard Ventures in 2021 in order to invest in startups. "Wildcard Ventures gives us the opportunity to identify new sports, health and entertainment technologies at an early stage, so that we can bring our extensive experience and global event platform to test and turn these startups into businesses that will benefit all sports in the long term," said Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia.
