Borussia Dortmund: centre circle at the stadium modified to raise awareness of testicular cancer

"To mark International World Cancer Day on 04/02/2023, Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) will use its home game versus SC Freiburg (5-1, at the Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund, GER) as an opportunity to raise awareness for the early detection and treatment of testicular cancer," stated the German club ahead of the game, on 04/02/2023.

"Before the match and during the half-time break, a bulge that symbolises a testicular tumour" was added to the centre circle. Two doctors provided information about the disease and its detection during an interview with the announcer and spectators were invited to donate their cups to support the NGO German Cancer Aid.

"The illnesses of BVB player Sébastien Haller (FRA/CIV) and other Bundesliga players have drawn attention to the topic of testicular cancer in the recent past. In Germany alone, approximately 4,000 men are diagnosed with this malignant tumour, which is particularly prevalent between the ages of 20 and 40, every year.
