Earthquake in Turkey & Syria: all sports competitions suspended in Turkey until further notice

"All national sports competitions are suspended until further notice due to the earthquake," announced Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu, Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, on Twitter on 06/02/2023, a few hours after the deadly earthquake that hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, killing more than 5,000 people (provisional toll as of 07/02/2023, midday).

The Minister published a list of sports facilities and halls made available to the victims of the earthquake in the 10 Turkish provinces affected by the disaster (Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, Osmaniye, Malatya, Hatay, Adiyaman, Kilis regions...).

"Event overview maps show that potentially 23 million people are exposed, including around five million vulnerable populations," said a World Health Organization (WHO) official on 07/02/2023.
