Earthquake in Turkey & Syria: sympathy from FIFA & the IOC, Turkish football clubs show support

"On behalf of the global football community, FIFA extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives at the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and with those who have been injured in this tragedy," said the International Federation on 07/02/2023, in the wake of the deadly earthquake in southern Turkey and northern Syria, which has killed more than 11,200 people, including nearly 8,500 in Turkey (provisional toll as of 08/02/2023, afternoon).

"In order to show our solidarity and support to the people of both countries during this terrible time, we asked for everyone at tonight's FIFA Club World Cup semi-final between Flamengo (BRA) and Al Hilal (KSA) (2-3) to observe a minute's silence in memory of those who have lost their lives. Prior to the second semi-final (in Rabat, MAR) between Al Ahly SC (EGY) and Real Madrid CF (ESP) tomorrow (08/02/2023), fans will be asked to observe the same respectful silence," added FIFA.
