Canal+: group now owns 30.27% of MultiChoice (African pay-TV group & holding company of Supersport)

Canal+ now owns 30.27% of the capital of South African pay-TV group MultiChoice (owner of sports pay-TV group Supersport International), announced the French pay and free TV group on 10/02/2023.

"This threshold crossing demonstrates the confidence of the Canal+ group and its shareholder Vivendi in the prospects of MultiChoice and the African continent, to which they are very attached," said the group.

Canal+ had announced that it held a 6.5% stake in MultiChoice on 05/10/2020. The group then increased this stake to 12% on 28/10/2020 (then to 15.37% in September 2021, according to specialised media). In June and July 2022, Canal+'s stake in Multichoice's capital increased again to 18.44% and then 20.12%. Canal+ then confirmed to News Tank that it has held 26.6% of MultiChoice's capital since 12/09/2022.
