UEFA: sponsorship revenue up compared to the pre-pandemic period for clubs in 2022

Commercial and sponsorship revenues generated by clubs in Europe's top leagues in the financial year 2022 (2021-22 season) were 13% higher than in 2019 (season 2018-19), the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to UEFA in the 14^th edition of its annual club licensing benchmarking report - "The European Club Footballing Landscape" - published on 10/02/2023.

Club sponsorship revenues thus gradually increased by 4% in 2020, 3% in 2021 and 6% in 2022. Conversely, commercial revenues, which include merchandise and non-matchday activities, decreased for two successive years (-10% in 2020, -14% in 2021) before increasing significantly in 2022 (+52%), thanks to the lifting of restrictions linked to the health crisis.

Among the main sources of revenue for clubs:
• revenues from main shirt sponsorship agreements increased by 22% between 2019 and 2022;
• merchandising revenues were up 17% over the period;
• equipment supplier payments have increased by 12%.
