Rugby Australia: AU$2m (€1.3m) invested to offer professional contracts to women's players

Rugby Australia (Australian Rugby Federation) will invest AU$2m (€1.3m) in women's rugby, particularly to offer up to 35 players part-time professional contracts, announced the body on 11/02/2023.

The players concerned, whether they play for the national team or in the national league (Super W), will be able to access three levels of contracts, with a remuneration ranging from AU$30,000 (€19,348m) to AU$52,000 (€33,537m). All Super W players will also receive a minimum of AU$4,000 (€2,580) from the Federation, with additional payments available from clubs. Finally, an agreement in principle has been reached on the payment of players during pregnancy and maternity leave.

In total, this represents a 60% increase in investment in women's rugby. Rugby Australia intends to fully professionalise its women's team for the 2025 World Cup, while the country is due to host the 2029 edition.
