LaLiga Santander: closure of the LaLiga Plus app dedicated to the broadcasting of matches in China

LaLiga is closing its "freemium" model app LaLiga Plus, dedicated to broadcasting LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank matches in China "due to problems unrelated to the competition," announced the Spanish body on 17/02/2023.

"LaLiga will continue to work to offer fans in China differentiating experiences in a strategic market for the growth of the competition," explained the league. The telecoms operator China Mobile will continue to broadcast the Spanish top flight via its OTT platform Migu Video. China Mobile acquired the rights to broadcast LaLiga Santander in its entirety in China over the 2022-2025 cycle on 12/08/2022.

LaLiga had initially launched, as part of a six-year agreement with Chinese media and technology company Streamline, the LaLiga Plus app to broadcast matches of both Spanish leagues in China from the 2022-23 season on 03/08/2022.
