FC Barcelona/suspicions of corruption: "Sporting sanctions are no longer possible" (J. Tebas)

"We have to be clear. LaLiga sporting sanctions are not possible against FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) because since 2018 five years have passed, and the statute of limitations is three years for this kind of act. On the other hand, this falls within the realm of criminal jurisdiction, and is currently under investigation by the National Prosecutor's Office. There could be a possible crime of corruption between individuals for fixing in the sports field," said Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, on 16/02/2023.

This statement comes a day after the Catalan radio station Ser Catalunya revealed that the Spanish National Prosecutor's Office had opened an investigation into "corruption" involving the company DASNIL 95 SL. The company, owned by José Maria Enríquez Negreira, is alleged to have received €1.4m from Barcelona from 2016 to 2018, when he was vice-president of the Spanish Technical Committee of Referees (CTA).
