France/Digital terrestrial television: TF1 & M6 selected by Arcom to renew their current frequencies

"Meeting in plenary session on Wednesday 22/02/2023, Arcom has selected, as a preparatory measure, the TF1 (Société Télévision Française 1) and M6 (Société Métropole Télévision) projects for the production of two national digital terrestrial television (DTT) services," announced Arcom on 22/02/2023.

The two frequencies concerned are those currently occupied by TF1 and M6. The "NJJ Project 5523" project, led by businessman Xavier Niel (president of the Iliad group, parent company of the French internet service provider and mobile operator Free), was not selected.

"This selection comes after a comparative examination of the applications and the public hearing, on 15/02/2023, of the three candidates. The Authority will now enter into discussions with the selected candidates in order to conclude an agreement defining the obligations and commitments of each of the two services. This agreement will have to be concluded before the delivery of an authorisation for the use of the radioelectric resources on DTT, which itself will have to take place before 05/05/2023," explained Arcom.
