France/LFP: 11% of club licence points to be awarded based on environmental criteria from 2023-24

11% of the points (i.e. 1,100 out of 10,000) required to obtain a club licence for Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT residents will be awarded by the Ligue de Football Professionnel on the basis of environmental criteria from the 2023-24 season onwards, according to information from the French sports daily L'Équipe on 22/02/2023.

Until then, the environmental criterion represented only 2% of the points (200) awarded to clubs under the LFP licensing system. Some of these new requirements respond to the 40 proposals formulated in the "Plan sobriété énergétique du sport" (Energy Saving Plan for Sport) and presented by Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, French Minister for Sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, on 13/10/2022: the carrying out of an energy audit, the reduction of electricity consumption by 10% compared to the previous season, the signing of the Charter of the 15 Eco-responsible Commitments, and the installation of LED lighting in stadiums.
