Canada Soccer: resignation of Nick Bontis, president of the body since November 2020

"I have submitted my resignation, effective immediately, to Canada Soccer's board of directors," announced Nick Bontis, president of the Canadian football federation, on 27/02/2023.

The 13 provincial and territorial federations that make up Canada Soccer recently sent a letter to the Federation requesting the departure of Nick Bontis, a member of the board since 2012 and elected president in November 2020. He is accused of a lack of financial transparency, particularly with regard to the transfer of Canada Soccer's commercial rights (TV rights and sponsorship) to the company Canadian Soccer Business for a period of 10 years in March 2018 (for an estimated sum of between $3-4m per year). This controversial agreement is currently under scrutiny by the Canadian Parliament which has demanded clarification and a number of documents from Canada Soccer by Friday 03/03/2023.
