UEFA: all tickets allocated to Liverpool fans for the 2021-22 Champions League final to be refunded

UEFA will introduce a refund scheme for fans "who were most affected when accessing the Stade de France" on 28/05/2022 for the 2021-22 Champions League final between Real Madrid CF and Liverpool FC (1-0), announced the body on 07/03/2023.

This decision comes almost a month after the publication of a report by the panel in charge of the independent investigation into the events surrounding the final, which concluded, among other things, that UEFA, "as event owner, bears primary responsibility for failures which almost led to disaster." Screening problems, forged tickets, pushing and shoving, tear gas, chaos... all these incidents had the effect of delaying the kick-off of the final by 35 minutes, scheduled for 28/05/2022 at 21:00 CET, and prevented 2,700 people with valid tickets from attending the match.

"Refunds will be available to all fans with tickets for gates A, B, C, X, Y and Z where the most difficult circumstances were reported. In addition, all fans who according to the access control data did not enter the stadium before 21:00 CET (the originally scheduled kick-off time)…
