Italy: Lega Serie A reportedly planning to buy part or all of Sky Italia (press)

Lega Serie A is reportedly planning to buy part or all of the pay-TV operator Sky Italia, according to the Turin daily La Stampa on 13/03/2023. Sky Italia is a subsidiary of the British pay-TV operator Sky, which is owned by the US media conglomerate and cable operator Comcast.

The proposed takeover is said to have been presented to the Serie A TIM clubs by Luigi De Siervo, CEO of the Lega Serie A, at the body's general assembly held on Monday 13/03/2023. The operation is intended to create the Italian league's own broadcasting platform using Sky Italia's infrastructure, organisational resources and client base, according to La Stampa.

Lega Serie A could opt to buy only the sports division of Sky Italia, or the entire subsidiary together with an external party such as the American financial services holding company JP Morgan Chase & Co, the British bank Barclays or the American banks Goldman Sachs and Citi, which have already expressed an interest, according to La Stampa.
