Fan experience: Zoom and MLB to offer live video conferencing between referees during TV broadcasts

Zoom Video Communications, a US company providing remote teleconferencing / videoconferencing services via cloud computing, has become an official sponsor of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2023, announced the North American league on 16/03/2023.

Zoom will deploy its video conferencing solutions for referees in the event of "replay reviews", i.e. request for video review initiated by teams or umpires regarding contentious game decisions (1,400 cases in the 2022 season).

While discussions between the senior referee and the Replay Command Center (based in New York, USA) were previously limited to audio channels, these exchanges will now take place through video conferences that will be broadcast live on MLB Network and Apple TV+. Until now, the process resulted in "fans being disconnected from the decision-making process," said the MLB, which intends "to create a more transparent and engaging review process."
