CIES: footballers on loan represent 9.49% of players in 2022-23, half are aged 23 or younger

Footballers on loan represent 9.49% of the total number of players in 2022-23, according to the CIES Football Observatory's "Monthly Report" published on 20/03/2023.

Players aged 23 or under account for 52.1% of the total number of footballers on loan. They are over-represented among this population, as they constitute only 34.8% of all active players among those studied by CIES.

Arsenal FC (Premier League) is the club with the most players on loan in 2022-23, with 25 currently playing for another club. The London club is ahead of two Serie A TIM clubs: Atalanta BC (24 players) and FC Inter Milan (21), tied with CA Talleres (ARG) and Brighton & Hove Albion FC (Premier League).
