Ligue 1: Prime Video documentary on referee Benoît Millot equipped with a mic during OL-Nantes

French referee Benoît Millot was exceptionally equipped with a microphone during the match between Olympique Lyonnais and FC Nantes (1-1), on Matchday 28 of the 2022-23 Ligue 1 Uber Eats season, on Friday 17/03/2023 (kick-off at 21:00 CET).

This experiment, initiated by the Prime Video platform (Amazon) and the Fédération Française de Football, is featured in the documentary "Sur écoute" available on the platform. The film, which lasts nine minutes, retraces Benoit Millot's comments and interactions throughout the match. However, it was not possible to listen to these remarks during the live broadcast on Prime Video.

"I see a real educational added value for spectators and viewers, because today, the only player in a match that we don't hear or understand enough is the referee. I am convinced that by turning on the microphones, we will be able to see a woman and a man behind a referee's position, and understand how such and such a decision was made according to certain criteria," explained Antony Gautier, the FFF's director of refereeing, to Prime Video on 17/03/2023.
