Manchester United FC: Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani faces Ineos group for the club's takeover

Avram and Joel Glazer, co-executive chairmen of Manchester United FC (Premier League), announced that they would "evaluate all options" regarding the future of the club in which they hold approximately 67% of the capital, on 22/11/2022. Three scenarios are currently being considered by the two Americans: a total sale of their shares, a partial sale with the addition of one or more minority partners, or a standstill agreement.

At least two investors are candidates for the takeover of Manchester United:
• Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, chairman of Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), who announced on 17/02/2023 that he had submitted a bid to acquire 100% of the club;
• the Ineos group (chemicals), headed by British businessman Jim Ratcliffe, already the owner of OGC Nice (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) and Lausanne-Sport (Credit Suisse Super League), which also explained that it had submitted a financial offer on 18/02/2023.

The Glazer family acquired the Manchester club in 2005 for £790m (around €1.1bn) and now value it at £6bn (€6.8bn). The two potential buyers have reportedly asked for more time…
