Sky Bet Championship: Huddersfield Town AFC bought by a North American group

A North American group, whose identity has not been disclosed as of 24/03/2023, has purchased the entire shareholding in Huddersfield Town AFC (Sky Bet Championship) held by its British chairman Dean Hoyle, announced the club on 23/03/2023.

Just prior to this purchase, Dean Hoyle had acquired the 75% of the club's shares owned by Pure Sports Consultancy, to become the sole owner of Huddersfield Town. The sale to the North American group is "subject to legislative and governance procedures" and the club will provide additional information to supporters "as soon as these procedures have been completed."

The deal comes after Huddersfield Town AFC was sanctioned by the EFL with a transfer embargo in March 2023. The decision was taken due to the late publication of the club's financial statements. Huddersfield Town thus becomes the 15^th English second division club to go under foreign ownership.
