Premier League: Apple interested in acquiring UK streaming rights (press)

Apple, a US electronics company, is interested in acquiring streaming rights to the Premier League in the UK, according to the US business and financial news website Bloomberg on 23/03/2023. The rights have already been allocated for the 2022-2025 cycle, meaning that this would cover the cycle beginning in 2025-26.

"The rights under consideration would allow Apple to show Premier League games in the UK, as well as lower league matches run by the English Football League," according to Bloomberg.

In the 2022-2025 cycle (as during the 2019-2022 cycle), domestic rights to the Premier League are held by Sky (pay-TV, 128 live matches), BT Sport (pay-TV, 52 live matches), Amazon (pay-TV, 20 matches and two full matchdays on an exclusive basis) and the BBC (free-TV, for free-to-air highlights).

• The Premier League's domestic and international broadcasting rights over the 2022-2025 cycle are expected to bring in £5.1bn (€6.03bn) and £5.3bn (€6.27bn) respectively, according to reports from the British daily The Times on 10/02/2022.
