Chelsea FC: a turnover of £481.3m (+10.6%) & net loss of £121.3m in 2021-22

Chelsea FC (Premier League) posted a turnover of £481.3m (€565.3m) during the 2021-22 financial year (01/07/2021 to 30/06/2022), up 10.6% compared to 2020-21 (£434.9m/€506.8m), announced the club on 27/03/2023.

"The results for the year have been impacted by the sanctions placed on the club’s previous owner (Roman Abramovich, RUS) on 10/03/2022. These restrictions were in place until the completion of the club’s sale (to an ownership group led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital) on 30/05/2022. The club was restricted in a number of areas including its ability to sell matchday and season tickets, sell merchandise, accept event bookings, as well as sign contracts with players and commercial sponsorship partners, which collectively resulted in extraordinary expenses and loss of revenue," explained Chelsea FC.

The increase in turnover was driven in particular by higher matchday revenues, due to the return of fans to stadiums following the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, and higher commercial revenues, which increased from £153.6m (€179m) in 2020-21 to £177.1m (€208m) in 2021-22. "The…
