Club World Cup: "There are still details to be worked out with FIFA" (Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, ECA)

"There are still details to be worked out with FIFA regarding the Club World Cup. They have their own idea about it and we have created a committee together with them to go through all the points on solidarity payments, the ways to access it. We have just approved the number of participating clubs, but even on the format there is still maybe something to change," said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, chairman of the European Club Association, during a press conference after the 29^th ECA general assembly in Budapest (Hungary) on 28/03/2023.

The Qatari president of Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) discussed the memorandum of understanding between the ECA and FIFA until 31/12/2030, which was announced on 27/03/2023. Under this agreement, the ECA is committed to supporting the new FIFA Club World Cup, which will be launched in 2025 and will include 12 European representatives (out of 32 participants), as well as an annual match between the UEFA Champions League winner and the winner of an intercontinental play-off, and the creation of a FIFA Women's Club World Cup.
