2023 NWSL: an average of 15,002 spectators per game, a record for an opening matchday

The six games on Matchday 1 of the 2023 NWSL season drew a total of more than 90,000 spectators, and an average of 15,002, a record for an opening matchday of the National Women's Soccer League, announced the North American league on 27/03/2023.

The previous record, set in 2022, was 10,150 spectators, while the opening matchday of the first NWSL season drew 3,321 spectators in 2013.

The San Diego Wave FC - Chicago Red Stars matvch (3-2) drew 30,854 fans to Snapdragon Stadium (San Diego, California, USA) on 25/03/2023. This figure is the second best attendance ever for a National Women's Soccer League match. The previous record was set at the same stadium, which hosted 32,000 fans for San Diego Wave FC - Angel City FC (1-0) on 17/09/2023.
