Russia 2018/Qatar 2022: FIFA lodges complaint with the Swiss Attorney General

FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) lodged a complaint with the Attorney General of Switzerland (Berne, SUI) for "the possible misconduct of individual persons in connection with the awarding of the hosting rights of the 2018 (Russia) and 2022 (Qatar) World Cups," stated the international body on 18/11/2014.

This complaint follows the recommendations of Hans-Joachim Eckert, chairman of the adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee, which had stated that "the investigatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee did not find any violations or breaches of the relevant rules and regulations,” on 13/11/2014. However, the same press release stated that "FIFA supports the independent Ethics Committee with respect to their preparedness to potentially open future cases against officials based on the information obtained during this investigation," on 13/11/2014.
