Athletics: Doha (Qatar) will host the 2019 World Championships

Doha, the capital of Qatar, has been awarded the 2019 World Championships in Athletics on 18/11/2014, following a vote of the executive committee of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations). Doha beat the city of Eugene (Oregon, USA) in the second ballot 15 votes to 12.

This is the first time the World Athletics Championships will be held in the Middle East. The competition will be organised in October, as proposed in the application of Doha. The Khalifa International Stadium (capacity 40,000) will host the 2022 World Cup, and will be renovated to host the World Athletics Championships.

• The 2015 World Athletics Championships 2015 will be held in Beijing (China) from 22 to 30/08/2015, and the 2017 edition will be held in London (UK) from 05 to 13/08/2017.
