Africa/women's football: CAF publishes its first "Women's Football Landscape Report"

The Confederation of African Football has published its first "CAF Women's Football Landscape Report" aimed at providing an overview of women's football in Africa and presenting "reliable baseline data for each member association, following a meticulous and collaborative survey conducted across the continent," announced the body on 31/03/2023.

This inaugural report "collected information from CAF member associations (MAs) until December 2022 in three key areas:
• development and participation
• league and competition
• structure and governance."

According to CAF, the objectives of the report, which counts only 150,653 licensed female footballers for the whole of Africa (i.e. less than in France where there are 176,600 in 2023) are "to:
• Give women's football concrete data and statistics to be used for future references.
• Measure and evaluate progress as programs and initiatives that are implemented throughout the region.
• Design practical programs to raise the standard for the women's football in the continent.
