Germany/DFL: €4.48bn in total revenue for professional clubs (Bundesliga & 2.Bundesliga) in 2021-22

"The total revenue of German professional football has increased for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis - but still remained well below the record levels of the pre-pandemic period in the 2021-22 season. In total, the 36 clubs in the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga generated €4.48bn in revenues last season. That corresponds to an increase of 10.5% compared with the previous season but is still around €325m less than before the pandemic (2018-19: €4.8bn)," explained the DFL in its 2023 Economic Report, published on 06/04/2023.

Of this revenue, €3.61bn was generated by the 18 Bundesliga clubs, an increase of 3.9% on 2020-21, and €867.8m by those in the 2.Bundesliga, a record high by contrast. Total matchday revenues for both leagues amounted to €402m in 2021-22, compared to €650m during the record 2018-19 season, and just €35.5m in the 2020-21 season, which saw most games played behind closed doors.
