"Do not throw stones at Olympique de Marseille, it's the system that's crazy! When you live (and work) in this system, no one says anything, we do not see irregularities. But take a normal person (outside football) and show him how it (the transfer system) works, he will not believe it," said Philippe Piat, president of FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers), to Tank News on 19/11/2014.

"The ownership of players by third parties (banned in France) is a monster, but the transfer system is also a labour monster; contracts are signed with players for the sole purpose of selling, inviting more hands (corruption). We swim in a conflict of interest with players' agents, who are paid by the opposing party, that is to say, by the clubs! We must reform the entire system," said Philippe Piat.

  • Vincent Labrune, president of Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1), was arrested and placed in police custody on 18/11/2014. This inquiry is linked to kickbacks paid to several intermediaries of André-Pierre Gignac transfer from Toulouse FC to Olympique de Marseille in August 2010.
