"The pitch is for the players and the stands for spectators" is the title of a statement published by six English football executives in the run-up to the end of the 2022-23 season, during which they do not wish to see the violence that resulted from several pitch invasions during the final matchdays of the 2021-22 season, notably in the Premier League (at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium and Everton's Goodison Park) and at the end of some Sky Bet Championship and Sky Bet League Two play-off matches.

Among the signatories of the text:
• Richard Masters, chief executive of the Premier League;
• Trevor Birch, chief executive of the English Football League;
• Mark Bullingham, chief executive of The Football Association.

"As we reach the exciting culmination of another thrilling football season, we want fans to continue to show their positive support as this can make all the difference to a team's fortunes. But our message is clear: fans must stay in the stands and avoid any unnecessary disruption at such a crucial point of the season," reads the statement.
