RFEF: tender for the provision of VAR for the 2023-2027 cycle suspended by Madrid Court

The Commercial Court of Madrid (ESP) has provisionally suspended, at Mediapro's request, the tender launched by the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol for the provision of the VAR service for its competitions for the 2023-2027 cycle, announced the Spanish audiovisual group on 24/04/2023.

"The RFEF has a dominant position in the market for the commercialization of the provision of the video assistant referee service to the extent that the organization exclusively manages the technological assistance services to the VAR and that no other entity tenders these services in Spain. The RFEF has implemented anti-competitive bidding legal grounds to benefit one competitor and to prejudice MEDIAPRO, conditioning, in a narrow market with few agents, the awarding of certain services (VAR) to the possibility of providing other accessory services (SAOT), with the same purpose of predetermine the result of the tender," stated the Madrid court's decision, communicated by Mediapro.
