Champions League/Italy: AGCOM imposes free-to-air broadcasting of AC Milan - Inter on 10/05/2023

AC Milan (Serie A TIM) - FC Inter Milan (Serie A TIM), the first leg of their 2022-23 Champions League semi-final, scheduled to be broadcast exclusively on Prime Video (Amazon) in Italy on Wednesday 10/05/2023 (21:00 CET), must be broadcast free-to-air, announced the Italian Competition Authority (AGCOM) on 27/04/2023.

In the event of the participation of an Italian team, the semi-finals and finals of the Champions League and Europa League are included in the list of "events considered particularly important for society" and must be broadcast free-to-air, said the AGCOM.

"Therefore, the semi-final cannot be broadcast exclusively and only on pay-TV, in order to ensure that at least 80% of the Italian population can watch it free-to-air without additional costs. Given that the broadcasting rights for the first leg of the match are held exclusively by Amazon, the latter is obliged to activate the procedure provided for in such cases, by formulating a proposal for the sublicensing on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory market conditions of the rights to broadcast this event."
