FIBA: Qatar to host the men's World Cup 2027 & Germany to host the women's edition in 2026

Qatar has been named host of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 for the first time ever, while Germany will host the women's World Cup in 2026 for the second time after the 1998 edition, announced FIBA, whose Central Board met in Manila (Philippines) on 28/04/2023. The men's competition has never been held in the MENA region before.

All the games played by the 32 teams participating in the 19th edition of the FIBA World Cup will be held in existing venues located in Doha (QAT), which will allow fans to "plan everything far in advance and enjoy a unique experience since all venues are within 30 minutes of each other," said the body, which has entrusted the organisation of the competition to the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), whose national team will be taking part in its second World Cup after the one in 2006.

"In making their decision, FIBA's Central Board were impressed by the bid and particularly the elements around the compact geographical nature, unique flexibility with tournament venue scheduling to better serve the fans, as well as an emphasis on sustainability…
