England: former sports players Kealia & JJ Watt (USA) minority shareholders of Burnley FC

Former US international football player Kealia Watt and her husband, former American (NFL) football player JJ Watt, are to become minority shareholders in English club Burnley FC, winners of the 2022-23 Sky Bet Championship and promoted to the Premier League for the 2023-24 season, announced the parties on 01/05/2023.

The financial details of the investment, as well as the share acquired by Watt Cup, have not been communicated, as of 03/05/2023. Prior to this transaction, Burnley had been 84% owned by Velocity Sports Partners, the sports investment arm of US-based ALK Capital, since 31/12/2020. The deal was valued at around £168m (€186m) by the British media. Following the acquisition, British-American Alan Pace, ex-CEO of MLS franchise Real Salt Lake and managing partner of ALK Capital, replaced Mick Garlick as chairman of the club.
