2022-23 Europa League/Italy: RAI acquires free-to-air TV rights to two semi-final matches

The public broadcasting group RAI has acquired the free-to-air broadcasting rights for two matches from the 2022-23 Europa League semi-finals in Italy from the pay-TV operator Sky Italia.

The public TV channel Rai 1 will broadcast the first leg of the semi-final between Juventus FC (Serie A TIM) and Sevilla FC (LaLiga Santander) on Thursday 11/05/2023 (kick-off at 21:00 CET), as well as the second leg of the semi-final between Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Bundesliga) and AS Roma (Serie A TIM) on Thursday 18/05/2023 (kick-off at 21:00 CET) TV8, Sky Italia's free-to-air DTT channel, will broadcast the other two matches free-to-air.

If an Italian team participates, the semi-finals and finals of the Champions League and the Europa League are listed as "events considered particularly important for society" and must be broadcast free-to-air. Sky Italia had also considered broadcasting the four matches free-to-air, but ultimately decided to sublicense the rights to two of them, according to Italian media.
