USA/Formula 1: 1.96 million viewers for the Miami Grand Prix on ABC (-24% vs 2022)

The second edition of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, the fifth race of the 2023 season and won by Dutchman Max Verstappen (Oracle Red Bull Racing), drew an average of 1.96 million viewers with a peak of 2.2 million on the free-TV channel ABC belonging to the American TV group ESPN (The Walt Disney Company) in the United States on Sunday 07/05/2023 (race start at 15:30 ET, 21:30 CET).

This represents a 24% drop in audience compared to the first edition of the GP in 2022, which drew an average of 2.6 million viewers with a peak of 2.9 million on ABC on Sunday 08/05/2022 (race start at 15:30 ET, 21:30 CET). The 2023 Miami Grand Prix still represents the second highest audience for a live Formula One Grand Prix in the USA, behind the 2022 Miami GP.

The Walt Disney Company, parent company of ESPN, extended its exclusive full broadcasting rights to Formula One in the United States for three additional seasons (2023-2025) on 22/10/2022. ESPN has been broadcasting F1 since 2018. Disney renewed the rights for between $75m and $90m (€68.3m and €82m) per season, according to US media.
