LFP/Dimitri Payet sanction: "Decision made in disregard of procedure & regulations" (O. Marseille)

"The sanction taken by the disciplinary committee of the Ligue de Football Professionnel against our player Dimitri Payet has unfortunately been pronounced in disregard of the elementary principles of procedure and Disciplinary Regulations of the LFP," announced Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1 Uber Eats), on 18/05/2023.

The club reacted to the LFP disciplinary committee's decision to suspend the French international for three matches and two further suspended matches (with effect from 23/05/2023), on 17/05/2023. The sanction was imposed after the player slapped Yannick Cahuzac, assistant coach for RC Lens (Ligue 1 Uber Eats), during an altercation between several players and staff members during the match between RC Lens and Olympique de Marseille (2-1) at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on 06/05/2023.

OM believes that "the conditions for referral to the disciplinary committee as set out in article 4 of the LFP's Disciplinary Regulations (see below) have not been met."
