FIBA Europe: Jorge Garbajosa (ESP) elected president (35/50 votes) Jean-Pierre Siutat (FRA) defeated

Jorge Garbajosa, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (Federación Española de Baloncesto, FEB), was elected president of FIBA Europe for four years after obtaining 35 votes out of 50 (70%) at the elective general assembly held in Munich (GER) on 20/05/2023. Jean-Pierre Siutat (FRA), president of the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) and the only other candidate in the running, was therefore outvoted.

The winner of the FIBA EuroBasket (in 2009) and the FIBA Basketball World Cup (in 2006) with the Spanish national team succeeds Turgay Demirel (TUR), president of the body from 2014 to 2023 (two terms).

"Firstly, I would like to thank president Turgay Demirel; having been on your team on the board for the past seven years, you have been an inspiration for me ahead of the next four years. I also want to thank all of the 50 federations. It is important for us now to work together because we are better together. I will fight and work for the growth of basketball in Europe," said Garbajosa, after his election.
