Greece: Giorgos Borovilos becomes head of the Super League; matches to resume after referee attack

Giorgos Borovilos, president of Asteras Tripolis (Super League, the Greek 1st division), was elected president of the Super League on 24/11/2014. Giorgos Borovilos succeeds Agrafioti Dimitri, who resigned earlier on 24/11/2014 following the attack on the professional referee Christoforos Zografos in Athens (GRE) on 14/11/2014.

Following the assualt on Zografos, the assistant director of the Super League's central refereeing committee, the EPO (the Hellenic Football Federation) decided to suspend all Greek league matches on 15/11/2014 to protect referees.

"Although the EPO is not fully satisfied with the content of the letter that shows and illustrates the very large operational problems of the league, it believes that it is a step in the right direction," the EPO said in a statement on 25/11/2014. "For that reason we will appoint referees so that the national competitions can continue and be completed smoothly."

The Greek league had been suspended for the weekend of 03 to 05/10/2014 after the death of a supporter in stadium violence
