SL Benfica: strategic partnership with Gotham FC (NWSL) to develop women's football

SL Benfica (Liga BPI) and Gotham FC (NWSL) have entered into a strategic partnership "aimed at sharing knowledge and development in several areas related to women's soccer," announced the two clubs on 24/05/2023.

"In addition to creating future player transaction opportunities, the partnership also opens potential avenues for growth, collaboration, and business opportunities off the pitch. Through this partnership, SL Benfica is poised to gain invaluable knowledge and insights from the North American women's soccer landscape. By closely studying the advancements and best practices in women's football in the region, Benfica seeks to enhance its own player development programs and strengthen its position as a leader in talent development on a global scale," said the Portuguese club.

While Gotham FC has been playing in the NWSL, the North American women's top flight, since its launch in 2013, SL Benfica has only had a women's team since December 2017.
