Bundesliga: an average of 42,967 spectators per game (+104%) & average fill rate of 92.3% in 2022-23

The 18 Bundesliga clubs drew an average of 42,967 spectators per match during the 2022-23 season, up 104% on the 2021-22 season (21,038 spectators) and down 1.1% on the 2018-19 season (43,450 spectators) - the last to be played in its entirety without any restrictions on spectator numbers. The German top flight thus welcomed a total of 13.1 million spectators, compared with 6.4 million in 2021-22. This puts the Bundesliga first among the European Top 5 in terms of attendance, ahead of the Premier League (39,421).

This increase is due to the end of restrictions imposed on German stadiums as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Partial capacity, which came into force from the start of the 2021-22 season and evolved according to the local health situation, was only abandoned from Matchday 28 onwards.

With 81,228 spectators per match at the Signal Iduna Park (81,365 capacity), Borussia Dortmund was the German club with the best attendance in the Bundesliga in 2022-23, ahead of FC Bayern Munich (75,000) and FC Schalke 04 (61,131). Dortmund are second among the clubs participating in the…
