Liverpool FC: Melwood training centre bought to host the club's women's teams

Liverpool FC (Premier League) "is once again the proud owner of Melwood (Liverpool, ENG), the club's iconic former training ground," where its women's team (Barclays Women's Super League) and its women's academy will be based, announced the club on 08/06/2023.

The Melwood site, which was the club's training centre for 70 years, was sold to Torus (a regional property developer) in 2019. Liverpool transferred its training centre to the Kirkby site (north-east of Liverpool) in 2020, which has since been known as the "AXA Training Centre" as part of a naming agreement. The facility was built for an estimated £50m (€55m), according to the British media.

Liverpool will also host a number of its Foundation programmes on the site, as well as the Robbie Fowler Education and Football Academy (FEFA).

"Torus will use the funds from the sale of Melwood to continue their strategy of increasing much-needed homes across Merseyside," said Liverpool. The value of the transaction has not been communicated, as of 08/06/2023.
