LaLiga Santander: an average of 29,575 spectators per game (+28.7%) & fill rate of 77.4% in 2022-23

The 20 LaLiga Santander clubs posted an average of 29,575 spectators per match during the 2022-23 season, up 28.7% on the 2021-22 season (22,979 spectators) and 11.2% on the 2018-19 season (26,585 spectators) - the last season to be played in its entirety without any restrictions on spectator numbers due to Covid-19. The Spanish top flight thus welcomed a total of 11.24 million spectators, compared with 8.7 million in 2021-22. This puts LaLiga Santander third among the European Top 5 in terms of attendance, behind the Bundesliga (42,967) and the Premier League (39,421).

This increase is due to the end of the Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions on attendance at Spanish stadiums, which applied to 14 of the 38 matchdays during the 2021-22 season. However, even without these restrictions, Spanish clubs still found it difficult to get all their fans back to the stadium, with some fearing contamination by the virus and others believing that ticket prices were excessive.
