Women's World Cup 2023/TV rights in France: "A good deal for viewers" (Nicolas de Tavernost, M6)

"We had already broadcast the Women's World Cup in 2015 (held in Canada from 06/06 to 05/07/2015). That time, we made a bid that was not initially accepted and France Télévisions made one of its own. Eventually, the situation was resolved recently. The French public, via several channels, will have free access to the Women's World Cup 2023. I think it's a good deal, for viewers in any case," said Nicolas de Tavernost, president of M6 Group, to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 15/06/2023.

The free-TV group M6 and the public broadcasting group France Télévisions (via an agreement between the EBU and FIFA) acquired the broadcasting rights in France to the Women's World Cup 2023 (to be held in Australia and New Zealand from 20/07 to 20/08/2023) on 14/06/2023.

"We have a price that is compatible with the economics of this great event. It takes place in the summer, at unfavourable times, and what's more, it finishes late. The price takes that into account," added Nicolas de Tavernost, regarding the rights acquired by France Télévisions and M6 for less than €10m.
