Future of Sport: "The Women's World Cup France 2019 was a remarkable moment for us" (S. Booth, FIFA)

"In terms of what viewership does, France (Women's World Cup 2019) was a remarkable moment for us. We had 1.12 billion views. What we saw after that was an incredible surge in popularity for the game," said Sara Booth, head of women's competitions at FIFA, on 15/06/2023.

Sara Booth participated in a panel entitled "FIFA Women's World Cup 2023: What does the future hold for our athletes on and off the field of play?" at Future of Sport, an event dedicated to the "positive transformation of sport" in Hall 2 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. Booth was joined by Julie Uhrman co-founder and president of Angel City Football Club (NWSL) and Benny Bonsu a Ghanaian-British global sports media and business leader.

"We had record attendances throughout Europe and also throughout the world, we had record signings of players (Sam Kerr to Chelsea FC, Ada Hegerberg going to Olympique Lyonnais) at unprecedented levels that we'd never experienced before. These are really important moments for us and its important that we have the eyeballs on the game," continued Booth.
