Bundesliga: Bayern Munich claim the world record for the most association members (251,315)

FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) has 251,315 members (or "socios") of in its association at the end of the 2013-14 season, the club said at the general meeting of its members on 28/11/2014. “I’ve said I was hopeful we’d soon be the world’s biggest sports club. We’ve hit that target,” Karl Hopfner, president of the club on 28/11/2014.

Bayern claims to the football club that has the most socios in the world, ahead of SL Benfica (POR, 235,000 members) and FC Barcelona (ESP, 177,246). After these three clubs, two Bundesliga clubs complete the Top 5: FC Schalke 04 (130,000 members in March 2014) and Borussia Dortmund (115,000 in November 2014), according to the German sports media outlet Sport 1 on 27/11/2014.
